Marking a century of service to Zimbabwe and the world, Harare’s five-star Meikles Hotel is counting down to the celebration of its centenary on November 15 this year. As one of the landmarks of travel and tourism in Africa, the hotel will commemorate this prestigious anniversary with a number of celebratory events in coming months, culminating in a weekend of festivity surrounding the anniversary date itself. The hotel opened its doors on November 15 1915, when not even the stresses of the First World War could lessen the hopes that entrepreneur Thomas Meikle had for a successful venture, built partly as a tribute to his late brother, Stewart. In the intervening 10 decades the hotel has seen growth and development and witnessed times of plenty and times of challenge, but has always placed the pursuit of excellence as pivotal in all its operations. With a recently refashioned North Wing that is the pride of Zimbabwe’s hospitality sector, the hotel stands ready to welcome discerning travellers from across the world as it enters its second century of service!
